After a few days of deliberation, it turned out I knew exactly what my 200th pledge on Kickstarter had to be:
Savage Sasquanaut 1-7: Bigfoot in Space! Adventure continues.
The pitch for this comic book is exactly what you hope it is:
“Bigfoot’s lost in space and LOVING it.”
I can toss my laptop out the window right now, knowing I will never, ever write a pitch that good.

Scanning back on everything I’ve backed, it’s crazy just how much has been truly good stuff. From a full length thriller feature film, to a documentary about the history of comic book shops, from an alcohol infuser to a perfect ice maker, from a light-up subway status map to restoration of the Beastie Boys’ G-Son Studio, not to mention TWO illustrated rock operas and a TON of great comics.
In fact, you can see everything I’ve ever backed at the bottom!
But Savage Sasquanaut encapsulates everything I love about Kickstarter, especially in the comic book space. Kickstarter allowed creator Wes Hartman to take his absurd—and absurdly great—idea and not just make one copy but actually get it in front of lots and lots of readers all over the world. And because Savage Sasqaunaut #1 was fun and funny and fully delivered on its premise and its promises, Wes got make more books, each time upping the ante while finding more audience.
(It’s funny—while I am singing Wes’s praises here, I am also shaking my head and pouring a little beer on the ground for him and all the other creators, because I know just how much work each of those books was. It’s like congratulating someone for running yet another ultramarathon—way to go, um, maybe you should stop now?)
